How is Circumcision performed: Before, During and After.
Circumcision is typically performed as a daycare surgery, with hospitalisation and same-day discharge without the need for an overnight stay at the hospital. The process of the circumcision procedure involves:
Preparation before Circumcision:
The preparation of the patient involves cleaning and clearing the site of surgery (cleaning and shaving the pubic area in adult men), administering local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, depending on the age and preferences of the patient.
During the Circumcision
Removal of Foreskin: Foreskin Removal Procedure: The surgeon precisely excises the foreskin from the penile glans using specific surgical instruments. The removal technique varies according to the chosen surgical method, commonly utilising a scalpel, clamp, or a specialised device.
Suturing: Depending on the technique, the surgeon might use stitches or other methods to close the incision. For example, in ZSR circumcision, the surgical stapler is used to cut and staple (close) the sides of the foreskin instead of using standard sutures.
Aftercare
Ensuring a smooth recovery requires proper aftercare, which involves maintaining the cleanliness of the treated area, applying prescribed ointments, and refraining from activities that might strain the healing wound.
